- James Ludwigson, age 85, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2017 at Oakwood Villa in Eau Claire.
Jim was born In Alma, Wisconsin on September 23, 1931, the youngest child of Nels Ludwigson and Rachel Strand Ludwigson. He grew up and attended school in Bloomer, Wisconsin.
In October, 1951, Jim was drafted in the U. S. Army, spending five months in Ft. Knox, Kentucky and then overseas to Trieste, Italy, where he served in the Military Police for 18 months.
On March 29, 1952, Jim was united in marriage with Geraldine in Cornell, Wisconsin.
For several years after returning from the Army, Jim worked as a truck driver for Gorton Construction. In 1968 he started his career as a Police Officer for the Division of Public Safety at the University of Eau Claire. Jim continued his police training with Police Science classes at CVTC, Supervisory Training, and Narcotics School. He taught Driver Safety Classes and received Outstanding Performance Awards. After 20 years Sergeant Ludwigson retired from Police duty; then started transporting prisoners for Eau Claire County.
On September 16, 1995, Jim Ludwigson and Irene were married at Trinity Lutheran Church in Eau Claire, with Jim acquiring two step-daughters. Jim and Irene enjoyed traveling to Mexico, Canada, European countries and to the Norwegian area from where his ancestors migrated. Jim also returned to Trieste, Italy where he had been stationed in the Army.
Jim was active in the community, serving as Little League coach, singing with the Barbershoppers, and was a long time active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was a member of the American Legion and served on the Honor Guard for several years. In 2015 he took a Freedom Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.
Jim loved his big family of nieces and nephews and watched the clan grow to five generations. He had many wonderful times with family and friends at the hunting trailer hunting deer and turkeys, and debating who shot the biggest deer.
He leaves behind a cadre of relatives and dear friends who have generously provided family support.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Cemetary.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 26, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Fuller-Speckien-Hulke Funeral Home on Rudolph Road and again on Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service at the church.
